Nursing Homes and the Elderly.

I know this not the topic of this Blog, but I can't figure out to make a new topic, and I want to publish this. Nursing Homes. They can be good, and very helpful if you ever need one. But, they can be sad. Just recently my Grandfather was temporarily placed in one for rehab after he fell and broke his hip. I witnessed an elderly lady, looking to be in her 80's or 90's, sitting in her Wheel Chair, holding a teddy bear and crying. I can't say for sure that her family left her alone, but at that moment no one was there. A day or so later, I overheard a nurse asking her to please not cry. This lady seems to be very lonely. When our family and friends get elderly, we should not just place them in the nursing home and forget about them.  If at all possible, family should always be there. Family and friends. Hardly a day went by that I did not go and visit with my Paw Paw. And his loving wife of 49 years, will be 50 December 23rd, 2011, was by his side every day and every night. From the moment he was admitted to the hospital, until he was sent home from the nursing home. An episode from King Of The Hill comes to my mind. The episode where Cotton, Hank's elderly father, is admitted to a nursing home for evaluation after trying to steal a wooden leg from a museum. As hank turns to walk out of the room, Cotton turns and says with a sad and worried look. "Hey. Your not gonna forget about your old man, are you son?" I don't see how anyone could. I can't say this lady was forgotten about, but, she sure was sad.
